Create scroll-stopping social media posts
Visibility matters for every business—whether you sell products, offer services, or want to attract the right people. Digital visibility is about showing up in multiple channels with consistent, purposeful messages.
So how do you craft great social posts? Start with these ten tips:
-
Know who you’re talking to
Before you create anything, clarify who you want to reach and what they care about. Relevant content starts with a clear picture of your audience. Ask yourself: Who do we want to reach? What are they interested in? How do we earn their attention?
-
Match the platform to the message
Not all platforms are equal. Choose the ones that fit your audience and your goals. For example, if you’re B2B, LinkedIn is a must. It’s more professional than Instagram—think of it as “Facebook for business”. The focus is on expertise, knowledge sharing, building networks, and increasingly, recruitment.
-
Lean into visuals
Humans process visuals faster than text. Pair your message with strong photos or videos to make it stick. Need help getting better shots? I share practical tips in this post.
-
Be authentic
Audiences can spot forced or artificial content. Stay genuine to build trust. Authenticity often comes through storytelling—share real moments, even the imperfect ones. I wrote more about that right here.
-
Stay current
Keep an eye on relevant events and trends, then weave them into your posts. That could be a recap of a conference you attended, highlighting the key points you brought home, or sharing a lesson you think others will value.
-
Deliver value
You won’t resonate with everyone, but aim to offer insight, knowledge, or inspiration that helps someone. We love content that teaches us something we care about. Valuable posts get liked and shared. (Thumbs up if this one does the trick 😉👍)
-
Plan recurring formats
Predictability builds anticipation. If you can, schedule recurring themes—“Team member Tuesday”, “Friday tip”, “Monthly update”, “New arrivals”, or whatever suits your business.
-
Use relevant hashtags
On LinkedIn, Instagram, and X/Twitter, hashtags help you reach beyond your follower base. They also make your posts easier to discover and share. Develop a set of branded hashtags and use them consistently. Unsure which hashtags fit? Check what your competitors rely on for inspiration.
-
Give engagement back
Reply to comments and questions, and jump into conversations. Take time to like, comment on, and share posts from partners and key players in your network. In short: treat others the way you’d like them to treat you. 👏🏼
-
Measure and adjust
Track performance so you know what works and what needs tweaking. Numbers take time to grow, so be patient—don’t kill an idea after one week. 😅
Remember: discovering what resonates on social media for your company is an ongoing process of testing and refining. These tips will get you moving.
